About Buffalo Gateway Show Chorus

Welcome to  the award winning Buffalo Gateway Show Chorus' home page!.   We invite you to visit us in person. Buffalo Gateway Show Chorus is a chapter of  Sweet Adelines International, Inc. We sing 4-part harmony, in the barbershop style. Our repertoire includes Show tunes and modern music as well as some of your favorites from the past. Master Director Diane Porsch directs the chorus whose members range in age from 18 to 93 years young. Both of our Assistant Directors, Sharon Wolff and choreographer Pam Calveric have completed the Director's Certification Program. 

  We rehearse on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM at the Hearthstone Manor, 333 Dick Road, Depew, NY. Guests are always welcome. We are proud members of Lake Ontario Region 16. For a complete listing of the other choruses and quartets in our region, see the Region 16 website.

 

Performance

We love to get out and sing for our community. We sing at our annual show, a number of community events, and at annual competitions. We also perform Singing Valentines around Valentines Day. We are available to sing at your next function or event. If you're looking for a unique musical experience to liven up your event.

 

Education

In addition to sharing our music with others, another great passion of ours is learning more about the art of acapella singing. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals, and a very important component of the chorus experience. A several times a year, we will get coaching from a visiting master in the art of barbershop, where we learn many fabulous tricks of the trade.

 Competition

In the spring of every year, we participate in the Region 16 chorus competition in Syracuse, New York. Competitions are a special time for quartets and choruses from our region to come together to sing for each other, and get some constructive feedback from a panel of judges. The winners of the regional competition in both quartet and chorus categories get to travel to International Competition, which is held in the fall in a city selected each year. In 2011, International Competition will be held in Houston, Texas.  Buffalo Gateway Chorus earned 10th place medals in Sweet Adeline International's chorus finals in Honolulu, Hawaii in 2008 and 8th place medals in SA chorus finals in Seattle, Washington in October, 2010.

 

Quartets

Most choruses have a number of members who form their own vocal quartets in addition to singing with the chorus. Buffalo Gateway Show Chorus currently is home to a number of wonderful quartets, and we are very proud of them! Click here to see our quartet section to learn more about them.

Our chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines, International, a non-profit organization of approximately 30,000 members in choruses and quartets, worldwide. The Headquarters is in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
